Compton Football Team

On Friday 13th October, we played a League match at Goals against Bickleigh Down.
We won 13 – 1.

On Friday 3rd November, we continued our six a side football league campaign with an afternoon fixture against Oreston Primary school at Goals. We started off bright with consecutive goal scoring opportunities in the opening minutes only for them to be saved by the opposition goalkeeper. We continued to work hard and the chances became goals as we found ourselves 7-0 ahead at the end of the first quarter. This high standard was kept throughout the game resulting in a impressive 23-0 win where the goals were shared all over the pitch showing great team work. The win now puts us second in the league table with our next fixture to be played on Friday 17th November.

On Friday 17th November, we played the second Oreston team in our league where we came out as comfortable 9-2 winners. We started off with intensity and purpose but grew frustrated with the lack of goal scoring opportunities we were turning into goals. We continued to play our good football and were 6-0 ahead at the half way mark. Compton continued to move the ball well and kept possession for long periods of time but two goals against the run of play meant the game finished 9-2. This win keeps us second in our league but we are determined to get to that top spot before the end of the year!!

Friday 12th January: After being sat firmly in second place for over two months, it was important we kept the pressure on the league leaders Montpelier with a win against Stuart Road on Friday afternoon. Stuart Road proved to be an excellent test for us, they were organised and had very talented young players. After a close first half, the score was level at 2-2. In the last two quarters we showed our strengths and played some brilliant football which was finished off with clinical shooting from not just our “strikers” but positions all over the pitch. We came out as 7-3 winners, well done everyone!

On Thursday 25th January, we entered three of our football teams into the football festival at Lipson Community College. We took one year 5/6 team and two year 3/4 teams. It was a brilliant event and one that gave Compton a chance to show our younger talent as well as our fantastic year 5/6s. Our year 5/6 team went unbeaten at the festival, winning on penalties in the final which makes up for losing on penalties last year! Both year 3/4 teams had brilliant attitudes throughout, with our A team making it to the final where they lost on penalties. A brilliant effort by all.

On Friday the 9th of March, Compton football team headed to Goals to play against Montpelier. This game was the decider for who went top of the league. The game started very quickly and both teams were playing really well. After the first quarter, it was 2-0 to Montpelier. Then the magic sparkle came into us. We started dominating. In the second quarter, we came back 3-2. We held the lead for a quarter and scored again, making the score 4-2. Now it was the 3rd quarter still 4-2. We started strong and they scored to make it 4-3. We got our heads back into the game and scored to make it 5-3 with many more chances to come. Then Jake Pulley scored an absolute screamer of an own goal to make the score 5-4. Then we scored to make it 6-4. The 4th and final quarter came. We had many chances but the 4th quarter finished 6-5 to us, making us top of the league! We had won!
