Fun Football Festival

On Wednesday 17th January 2018, some of our children participated in a termly Football festival at Goals. 8 teams came along to take part in a friendly and inclusive event. There were children representing schools from across the city; Compton/Dunstone Primary/The Cathdral School/Woodford Primary/Riverside/St. Peters RC/Yealmpstone Farm and Cann Bridge. Although all of the teams were competing to be the overall winners on the day, we also took the opportunity to celebrate Respect through Football. Everyone who took part received a certificate at the end of the morning but there was also an unenviable task for each of the teachers; it fell to them to choose one person from each of their teams to receive a special medal for displays of sportsmanship, determination and of course, respect and it is always so difficult to pick just one. Our medal went to Jasmine. The round robin festival works on a point system – 5 points for a win, 3 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss; the team with the most points overall are the champions for the day.
Unfortunately, we had to finish the tournament a little bit early; having completed most of the games, the heavens opened and down came a very icy downpour. We thought that we could persevere but as it started stinging we all made a run for shelter. This did mean that we could not fairly calculate the overall scores as some teams had played one less game then others – so in the spirit of respect again – we called it an 8 team draw. No one seemed to mind as we had still managed to play loads of games before the rain came. Well done to all of you who played, there were some fantastic footballers out there and even more important, some excellent team work!
