Hockey

On Thursday 26th March 2018, 10 children attended a Family Hockey event at Lipson Community Academy. The children’s performance was second to none as they defeated their opponents and won every game in their league. Unfortunately, another school dropped out which meant we had to play an extra game, but this did not stop the mighty Compton warriors as they battled on through to the finals against Montpelier.

In the first few games, there was some fantastic team spirit and sportsmanship, which led to some successful goals scored by Kat (Year 4), William (Year 3) and Charlie (Year 6). Overall, only one goal was let in by Compton due to the strong defence and tackling skills amongst the team.

After winning several games, we qualified for the semi-finals were we beat our opponents 2-0! This meant playing Montpelier (a pure mixture of Year 5-6 children!!) in the finals! The children of Compton held their defence despite the age and height difference. It was certainly an intense final match! As the final minutes were approaching, Montpelier battled their way through and took a shot which was saved by our very own Charlie, who performed what can only be described as the best diving save ever seen in a game of hockey! This did not stop Montpelier and after the restart they were quick to progress and managed to score one final goal. The final whistle blew and despite losing in the finals, the team spirit remained high and the children congratulated Montpelier for their sterling efforts.

Our children worked their hardest despite other teams pulling out last minute. To be awarded 2nd place with a mixture of Year 3 – Year 6 children was a big achievement and definitely the highlight of the match.

Well done Team Compton – keep up the good work!
