Plymouth School’s Music Competition

On Saturday night, the school singing club gathered at Mutley Baptist Church for the Plymouth School’s Music Competition. This is the 4th time we have entered this competition and we were feeling very optimistic. Each year, different schools have entered this competition, which is always a very relaxed, laid back affair. This year we were competing against High View, Hyde Park Juniors, The Cathedral School of St Mary and the ‘Lovely Jubbly’ group from St Budeaux Methodist Church. The entrants were divided into 2 groups, with Compton up against the much smaller Cathedral School Choir. Despite our children singing beautifully and putting in two amazing performances, the judges decided to award first place to the Cathedral school on this occasion, stating it was a very close call. However, although clearly disappointed not to win, the Compton singing group were gracious in defeat and gave all the schools involved their enthusiastic support, as well as being a credit to the school all evening. Many thanks to all of the parents, families, friends and neighbours who came along to support on the night, and to Mrs Butcher for giving up her Saturday evening to help us out. Due to the number of children involved in the Drama club on Tuesday evenings next term, the singing club has now finished for this academic year and will resume in September.
